Malieveld Diary 2002 / Red Elephant 2002-2007
In Dutch: Rode Olifant, that is the name the people give to the originally "Esso Building" in the neighbourhood Benoordenhout in The Hague. This building and the large green and empty area in front of it: Malieveld has always fascinated me. In 2002 I made a photo Diary of it and all their surrounding buildings and green areas. The Red Elephant had a prominent place in the whole Diary. The sun shines always so beautiful on it, the red bricks warmth the sky. From Malieveld the horizon and clouds are at their best. One side is green, one has the new tallest ministerial buildings of the city, the third part has a low horizon of 18th century buildings and my favorite side has the South Holland Provincial Building (Zuid Holland Provinciehuis) with the '50s and '90s not so high architecture and the crown is the Red Elephant, deep red with a high tower- trunk.
